Mischa Anne Marsden Barton (born 24 January 1986)is an American-born British film TV, stage and film actress. Her stage career began in Tony Kushner's Slavs! and voicing the lead role in James Lapine's Twelve Dreams at New York City's Lincoln Center. She made her screen debut in the form of a guest appearance in the American soap drama All My Children (1996) and also acting as a character in the Nickelodeon cartoon series KaBlam! (1996-97). She was the protagonist in Lawn Dogs (1997), an action drama that starred Sam Rockwell. This was her first major film role. The major roles she played included Notting Hill (1999), a romantic comedy, and M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller The Sixth Sense (1999). She also played a role in the independent crime drama Pups (1999).Barton later appeared in the indie drama Lost and Delirious (2001) and guest-starred as Evan Wood's girlfriend in ABC's Once and Again (2001-02). She was Marissa Cooper in the Fox television series The O.C. She won two Teen Choice Awards for her character as Marissa Cooper on the television show on Fox called The O.C. (2003-2006). The role brought Barton into mainstream fame, and Entertainment Weekly named her the "It Girl" of 2003.Barton has since appeared in the comedy remake St Trinian's (2007), the Richard Attenborough-directed drama Closing the Ring (2007) and Assassination of a High School President (2008). In 2009, she starred in The Beautiful Life (2009) The Beautiful Life, a short-lived production by Ashton Kutcher for CW series. In 2012, she made her return to the stage, performing in the Irish production of Steel Magnolias. She also appeared alongside Martin Sheen in Bhopal A Prayer for Rain (2014). Her roles in independent films have earned reviews of praise and the Los Angeles Times calling her "outstanding" in Starcrossed (2014). Barton was in the first season of MTV's The Hills: New Beginnings. The relaunch of The Hills is Barton's role.
