Madhuri Dixit Nene (nee Dixit born 15 May 1967) is an Indian actress and TV personality. One of the most adored leading actresses of Hindi film She has been featured in more than 70 Bollywood films. The critics have praised her attractiveness, dance skills, and strong characters, Dixit's early career was defined mostly by roles in romantic and family dramas. She later expanded her repertoire. Her accolades include six Filmfare Awards from a record 17 nominations. In 2008 she was honored when the Government of India awarded her with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in the country.Born and raised in Mumbai Dixit made her acting debut in 1984 in a leading role in the drama Abodh. After a string of commercial failures, Dayavan (1988) and the subsequent hit Tezaab (1988) were her first major breakthroughs. She was able establish herself with leading roles in the top-grossing romantic dramas Dil (1990), Beta (92) and Hum Aapke Haiin Koun..! (1994), and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). She received four Best Actress awards at the Filmfare Awards for her performances in the films. Other films that were commercially successful during this period include Ram Lakhan (1989), Tridev (1989) Thanedaar (1990), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Saajan (1991), Khalnayak (1993) and Raja (1995).
