Alexandra Park

Alexandra Park is a racecourse located in the suburb of Epsom in Auckland, New Zealand. It is home to the Auckland Trotting Club .The park is comprised of the Alexandra Park Raceway trotting track as well as a conference center and high-end urban village which is currently in construction. Alexandra Park hosts many feature harness races throughout the year, including the Auckland Trotting Cup and the Rowe Cup, and is the location of the New Zealand Trotting Hall of Fame and Museum. The park's name is a tribute to Queen Alexandra and was the first location in Auckland to host organised racing in 1842. It was part of William Potter's vast farm, it was referred to as Potter's Paddock. Purchased for their horses with draughts by the tramways corporation in 1887, it was, by agreement, still used for cricket, rugby and football matches. Regular Auckland Trotting Club meetings began in 1890. Ten years later on the arrival of her oldest son, the duke of Cornwall, it received the title Alexandra Park and the parkland surrounding it was given the name Cornwall Park. In the year 1898 the first grandstand was constructed.
